New hobby

19 11 2008

Crossword puzzles are my latest addiction. I dont know how I stumbled upon them but just yesterday Donell picked up the local paper and she decided to fill out the x-word puzzle together. It was fun. We completed one yesterday and almost finished one today and will continue this pattern for as long as we can. This definitely takes my mind off of stressful nonsense at work.

Writing with style

3 09 2008

I graduated with a degree in Journalism a few years ago and since then [besides getting hands-on experience while interning at a reputable news organization in NYC] I havent used my degree. I’ve been so out of touch with writing articles, researching information and interviewing people, that I feel if I dont brush up on these skills I will lose them.

I got an email from Mediabistro that they were offering classes to those who wanted some experience and knowledge in various areas in the media and publication industry. I decided to take a class in fashion writing. I love fashion. I love reading and watching about fashion shows, documentaries, movies, magazines etc. It only makes sense to take an interest in what I love.

I start class next Monday and I hope its meets (or exceeds) my expectations. Wish me luck!

Stress reliever

25 04 2008

Its been a while since I last knitted. Everytime I knit I feel so relaxed. I want to make a tam. I will start this weekend. Saturday I’ll go to AC Moore to get some more yarn. Oh no on second thought I already have yarn here. Hopefully, I have the right size needle to make the tam if not then on Saturday I’ll go to the craft store.

It’s not a hat, it’s a headwarmer.

I tried my best to make this hat…

real hat

And all I got was this hat headwarmer…

As you can see the top part of the “hat” doesnt look right. I tried my best. I know my mistake and will do better next time. After the Boards 2morrow at my job, I will have time to update my blog on a regular basis and continue to knit.

I will be making another hat, possibly a tam. Will keep you posted. :-)

This week’s projects

3 03 2008

This past weekend, I started making Andy a scarf and myself a hat. This time I made his scarf using a different type of yarn. His scarf wont be as soft as mine and he wanted a dark brown color. And he wanted it really thick and wide to protect him from the cold since he commutes to NYC everyday via train. I am almost finished and I can honestly say I am not a big fan of the scarf. It looks plain but Andy likes it a lot. I guess its what the customer wants.

I’m also going to be making some hats. One is for practice and the other ones will be a tam/beret. It will be with the same soft Homespun yarn I used for my beautiful purple scarf.

Please note: The tan colored hat pictured above will be the practice hat. Click on image for pattern. I’m making my hat a little different.

Will post finished product. Hopefully, when I’m done it looks and feels like a hat. :-)

I’m officially a knitter…

3 03 2008

ravelry

because I was invited to Ravelry (a site for knitters, crocheters, and weavers). I was on the waiting list and got my official invite on Feb 9th. I didnt know I was invited until I checked the waiting list and it said my invite was sent on Feb. 9th. I had to change my junk email block settings in order to get the email. Anyways, I’m officially a knitter. Hee Hee Hee. :-)

Another scarf complete

28 02 2008

I am so proud of myself. I finished yet another scarf and this one is far better than the last one. The color is even prettier too. Andy reluctantly modeled this one for me. He’s very helpful (only when I threaten him). I had to ”lie” and tell him that I was only going to take a picture of him from the neck down. Hee! Hee! Hee! I got more than that. :-)

I will be starting a hat. This will be my first time making a hat. I’m going to try and teach myself first and if I cant make it then I will go to a class or something. We shall see.

Too busy to post pics

27 02 2008

Hello All! This past weekend I went to Queens, NY with my bf, his lil sister, older brother and father and spent some time with them at his older brother house. I have pictures but I have been so busy with studying for my job. I have an exam 2morrow so I will post pics after work.

I also went to the local crafts shop and got few knitting needles and yarn. I am planning on knitting a hat and scarf. This project, I estimate, will take two weeks to complete at the most. Will keep you posted.

I flubbed it

14 02 2008

I finally finished my ”baby steps cloth” and it looks nothing like the picture. One foot looks like a foot and the other foot looks like an alien foot. It has three toes and it looks extra long. I’ll admit that in the process of knitting I accidentally skipped two rows, however, as far as the foot being long and skinny I dont get it. I follow the instructions to a “T”. I dont know. I will definitely try again another day. I refuse to post the pic because I’m lazy. :-)

Darn, darn, darn!

8 02 2008

I have to knit this ish all over again. I’ve spent so far a couple of hours each day knitting this washcloth and I messed it up. I still have until Feb. 16th to get it ready for my co-worker’s baby shower.

Here are a few pics of the “damage”.

As you can see the right “foot” (if you want to call it that) is not formed and is much larger than the “oh so cute” left foot. Darn, darn, darn! I got to do it again.
